Starting Residency

Yesterday, Atsuko and I started working with a lawyer to fill out paper work for her residency in the United States.  Unfortunately, we have to get the names on her driver's license and social security cards changed before we can send anything off, but the paper work is already starting to pile up for what is needed on our end...

  • Places we've worked in the last 5 years

  • Places we've lived in the last 5 years

  • Tax returns as far back as we can go

  • Marriage License

  • Social Security Cards, Driver's License, Passports

With just that stuff, the stack of papers we brought to our meeting was already piling up.  If there is any advice I can give someone trying to get residency it would be get a lawyer and make sure you have these things ready weigh before hand.  At Least then, if you lawyer contacts you two days before your meeting you won't be scrambling to find it all.  Then there was the questions on just one form.  I think almost 40 or 50 in all.  They were just yes or no questions but we had to go through all of them and it took a while.
