ひき逃げ事故で麻痺した犬のパイパーは、飼い主が必要な医療費を払えずに治療を受けれずにいました。シアトルのローカルTVステーションが寄付を募って、今日パイパーは獣医に行って、必要な検査を受けることができました。手術が必要かもしれないパイパー、これから長い回復への道が始まります。パイパー、なんとなくダーマに似てて、放っておけなく、私も少しだけど寄付しました。あきらめずに一生懸命に生きようとするパイパーに学ぶ事があると思う！

パイパーは、飼い主のお母さんが心臓発作で苦しんでるときに、吼えて、緊急である事を家族に知らせたんだって。犬って本当にAmazingな生き物。

Darma Loves the Snow

The area got another dose of snow over night, and it keeps falling.  Darma loves to go out and run around.  We filmed two movies of her with snow.

Both were filmed on our new Nikon camera, the thing makes gorgeous looking movies!

It started snowing outside again. Wil and I had a day off due to the MLK holiday, so we didn't have to go to work today. I wouldn't have gone even if I worked anyway! We live on the hillside, so when it snows, it's impossible to go anywhere.

今日も、また雪。今日はマーティンルーサーキングの祝日で、ウィルも私もラッキーな事にオフでした。 仕事あったとしても行けないけど！私たちのアパートは丘の上なので、雪が降ると坂が怖くてどこにもいけません。

Darma likes snow!!

This morning, I walked to my dentist and had my teeth cleaned. Yes, I was THAT bored!! I hate being stuck in my apartment. I already cleaned and organized my kitchen, did laundry and vacuuming, watched bunch of TV shows on Netflix. I was tempted to move my furniture, but Wil told me not to.

 今朝、歯医者まで歩いていって、歯のクリーニングをしてもらいました。
そう、私はそれほど暇だったのです。アパートでじっとしてるの嫌いー。すでにキッチンを整理整頓して、ランドリーもして掃除機もかけて、テレビもたくさん見て、やる事がない。家具の配置を変えようと意気込んでたら、さすがにウィルにとめられました。

Darma and I

It supposed to snow tonight, so I'm worried about the commute tomorrow morning. All I know is, I'm not risking my life to go to work. If you see my blog post again tomorrow, you will know I have a day off again!

今夜も雪の予報です。明日の交通の便が心配。でも、あまり危険そうだったら仕事休む。明日もブログ更新してたら、仕事休んだってこと。

Trip to Japan

Nanzenji, Kyoto

It's been 2 weeks since we got back from Japan. I haven't had time to post pictures on this blog, but it seems to be a good time to do now since it's snowing outside. (We have an inch of snow already and supposed to keep snowing for few days!)

The trip was a lot of fun! We were busy everyday. Especially the trip to Kyoto was amazing. Thanks for my parents for the awesome Christmas present!

Ai Akabane

Also, we enjoyed meeting Ai, my parents' new dog. She was a sweetest little thing. She is a vary tiny black Shiba that weighs only 16 lb or so. After we came back to the US, Darma seemed so big!! Speaking of Darma, she was so happy to see us. I can tell it was a very stressful 10 days for her. Now she is back to normal and being lazy on the couch.

I wish we were staying longer than 9 days, but we still had a wonderful time. I would like to thank all my friends who took time to see me! I feel so lucky to have friends like them in Japan even we live in  different countries.

日本から帰ってきてもう２週間たちます。これまで写真を載せる時間がなかったけど、今日は雪が降っててどこにも行けないのでブログ書いてます。（すでに４ｃｍ積もってて、これから数日間雪の予報らしい。）

日本では毎日忙しくも楽しく過ごしました。特に京都への旅は思い出深いです。両親からの素敵な素敵なクリスマスプレゼントに感謝です。

それと、両親の新しい犬、あいにも会えてよかった！あいはとっても可愛い黒柴の女の子で、８ｋｇしかない小さい柴犬です。アメリカに帰ってきた後、ダーマがすごく大きく思えたのは言うまでもありません。

ダーマといえば、私たちを見た瞬間喜びの嵐でした。きっとストレスのたまった１０日間だったとおもうけど、今は元通りで、ソファーの上で毎日ぐうたらしてます。

本当は日本にもっと長く滞在したかったけど、仕方ない。そして、私たちに会うために年始年末に時間を作ってくれた友人たち、本当にありがとう！遠く離れてすんでても、こんないい友達が日本にいると思うと私は本当に幸せ！

Merry Christmas from the Gibsons to you！

Wil and I are leaving for Japan in 2 days. Yes, we are flying on the Christmas day...it was the cheapest day to fly. We will leave our apartment around 3 am on the Christmas morning. I can't wait to see my family and friends.

Bad news is, I have been sick for last three days. This strong bug has been going around in the office last few weeks, and I finally got it. Luckily I am feeling much better today. Little weak still, but much better. I'm hoping Wil won't get this. So far, he is okay. Darma seemed very happy to have mommy home for the last few days. She was right next to me wherever I was. I think she knew I wasn't feeling well. What a sweet girl!! I hate to leave her here for 10 days at the kennel, but I think she will be okay.

Since we won't be home for Christmas, we did our Christmas last Sunday. We opened our gifts and had a good day. I got a new robe, bread maker, and GLEE Christmas CD! Thank you Wil! I have been using my bread maker and I love it. I baked white bread so far, but I want to try making cinnamon rolls after we come back from Japan.

後２日で日本に帰ります。そう、一番安かったので、クリスマスの日に帰ります。アパートを出るのはなんと２５日の朝３時。長い１日になりそう。でも、家族や友達に会うのが待ちきれない！

ところが、私は３日前から風邪っぴきです。ガーデンオフィスで風邪が流行ってて、私以外のスタッフ全員がすでに風邪引いて、時間の問題だなーと思ってたら日本行きの直前にひいちゃった。今日はずいぶん調子がいいです。まだ少し体力ないけど、でもずっとよくなった。ウィルのこの風邪うつらないといいけど、彼は今のところは平気。ダーマは、マミーが思いがけず家にいてうれしそう！私がどこにいようと、ずーっと私の隣にいます。きっと、私が気分が良くないのが分かってるんだと思う。やさしい子！ダーマをケネルに１０日間預けるのはすごく嫌だけど、きっとダーマは大丈夫。

クリスマスに留守にするので、ギブソン家のクリスマスは先週の日曜にしました。プレゼントをあけて、いい１日を過ごしました。私は、バスローブと、ホームベーカリーと、クリスマスのCDをもらった～ウィルありがとう。ホームベーカリーはすごくいいです。今はまだ普通の食パンしか焼いてないけど、シナモンロールにもチャレンジしてみます。

Here are some of the pictures from our trip to Vancouver B.C. over the Thanksgiving holiday. Vancouver has lots of good Chinese food for really cheap! Our first three meals, we had authentic Chinese food. I won't write down everything we did, but Vancouver is a very cool town! We will definitely go back there in the summer when weather is nicer.

少しだけど、感謝祭にカナダに行ったときの写真をのせます。バンクーバーは、本場の中華料理が安く食べられる町！私たちの、初日の食事は中華料理ばっかりでした。行った所、した事、ここにはすべて書かないけど、バンクーバーは素敵な町です。夏の天気のいい季節にまた行きます！２泊３日、あっという間だった～。



My favorite was the public market at Grandville Island. It was a walking distance from our hotel, so we walked there in the morning. It's like Pike
Place Market, but bigger. I had panacotta gelato for breakfast. Best breakfast ever! We were fortunate to have the sunny weather on our second day there.

一番のお気に入りは、グランビル島にあるマーケット！ホテルから歩いていける距離だったので、２日目の朝行ってきました。シアトルのパイクプレースマーケットみたいな雰囲気で、もっと大きいの。私は、パンナコッタのジェラートを朝食に食べました。この日は天気もよくラッキーでした。

Needless to say, Darma was very happy when we picked her up after spending three days apart. She slept the whole day and a half straight on the couch. She must have not slept well at all at the kennel. Poor Darma...

言わずとも知れど、ダーマは３日間のケネルの後、ピックアップしたときはすごく嬉しそうでした。帰りの車の中では、嬉しすぎてぜーぜー言ってたくらい。家に帰ってきて、１日半ずーっと寝てました。きっと、ケネルでは全然寝られなかったんだね、かわいそうに。

First Nation Artist Bill Reid

Atsuko and I went to the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia last Thursday.  There we saw some of the work of Rill Reid.  The piece below is Raven and The First Men, it depicts humanity being tricked by raven to to come to the surface and is part of the Haida creation story.

Wow, it's 2 more weeks until Thanksgiving! This November is going very fast for me. My boss is gone this month for an expedition in Papua New Guinea. The fall color has passed its peak at the garden, yet Japanese Maples are coloring beautifully right now. When the sun hits in the morning, those colored leaves shine  beautifully.

Our Vancouver trip is coming up soon! I have to research more and decide what we are going to do. Several people told me that the restaurants there are amazing. Can't wait! I hope Darma will do well at the kennel. It's only 2 nights, so it will be a good practice before we go back to Japan.

I'm going to put the tree up after we come back from Canada! Here comes the holiday season. Yes!

感謝祭まであと２週間！１１月があっという間に過ぎていくかんじ。私のボスは、今月はパプアニューギニアにプラントハンティングの旅に行ってます。ガーデンでの紅葉はピークを過ぎたけど、もみじが色づいていて綺麗です。朝日がもみじの赤い葉を照らすと、キラキラしてとても綺麗。
感謝祭のカナダへの旅も近づきつつあります！もっとリサーチして、何するか決めなきゃ。いろんな人に、バンクーバーのレストランは、シアトルのより安くておいしい、と言われました。ダーマが、ペットホテルで平気だといいけど。今回は２日間だけだから、日本に帰る前にいい練習になるね。
カナダから帰ってきたら、クリスマスツリー飾ります。大好きなホリデーシーズン！

Fog!

Earlier this week, the valley was covered in fog.  It was crazy to look down and not be able to see anything at all.  My commute to work took me right through the middle of it all.  Going down the hill and into the valley was strange as you entered the low cloud.  You couldn't even see the tops of some of the five and six story buildings.
